Hanging Out With Gram

In this charming and humorous picture book for children ages 4-8, a determined boy has big plans for a special day with his grandmother—but he soon discovers that adventurous Gram has ideas of her own!

Young Mateo is excited to hang out with his grandmother, and he has carefully prepared a list of activities that he thinks are exactly right for sweet, old Gram—complete with leisurely walks, lots of rest, and carefully selected foods. However, Mateo soon realizes that Gram has her own way of interpreting his list. One by one, she debunks his expectations, encourages him to be more active, and leads him on a series of unexpected, new adventures.

Key Features:

  • Celebrates multigenerational family bonds: The story encourages grandparents and grandchildren to share interests and adventures and to truly get to know each other.

  • Encourages sharing outdoor activities and learning new skills: Mateo and Gram run in the park, ride bikes, swim in the ocean, and read together.

  • Challenges stereotypes: The antics of this vibrant, active, and adventurous grandmother repeatedly push her grandson out of his comfort zone and debunk his misconceptions about how older adults behave.

  • Funny and heartwarming: Charming, detailed illustrations pair with funny dialogue and situational humor for a fun, playful story.

Perfect for kindhearted kids and young-at-heart grandparents, Hanging Out with Gram follows one determined kiddo who works hard to create a special day for his grandmother . . . but isn't quite prepared for the eye-opening day she has in store for him!
