Silicon Valley East
3rd Place Fiction Award-Winner, Delaware Press Association 2026 Communications Contest
Silicon Valley East is a novel of historical fiction. Set in the early 1980s, a period of great technological revolution, this retro romp centers on a hub of innovation in the Philadelphia suburbs, which President Ronald Reagan dubbed the ‘Silicon Valley of the East.’ The novel tells the story of Christina Como, a determined young woman breaking barriers in a male-dominated field, as she navigates the emerging tech world and brings hospitals into the computer age.
Vivid settings across the country, from emergency rooms to computer rooms, become the backdrop for a richly depicted narrative of personal transformation and life choices inspired by the author’s experience as a software developer, coach, and healthcare strategist.
The story explores themes of women in STEM, imposter syndrome, ambition and entrepreneurship as the protagonist pushes back against limiting gender role expectations and questions societal norms. Capturing scenes of 1980s culture and an era of explosive technological growth, Silicon Valley East is a compelling narrative of ambition and personal transformation, as relevant today as it was in the 80s.
