Memoir of a Skipjack
Preservationist and historian Randolph George in 1993 bought and restored Martha Lewis, an aging Chesapeake Bay skipjack. What happened next was a labor of love and the discovery of a way of life fast fading from view. We meet the craftsmen who built her and the watermen who depended on her for a living, recalled in their own words. The entire skipjack fleet is described in detail with 109 pictures and diagrams in 187 pages. Included is the most comprehensive description of a skipjack yet undertaken, a certain reference book for those with a love for this iconic vessel and its place in American history.
