Meet Mark Decker author of Country Boy on July 3rd from 6:30pm-8:30pm.
Country Boy captures the breadth and depth of life in the political world of Washington, D.C., with his soul mate, Molly; a father helping to raise a young son; observing human nature at home and at work through the eyes of a simple country boy who found, in joy and sorry, that he had a gift for writing poetry.
"Mark Okey Decker was raised in a small farming community, Woodsfield, in southeast Ohio in the 1950s and 1960s. He graduated from Kent State University and was there when four students were shot and killed by the Ohio National Guard. Sandy Scheuer, one of those killed, was a friend. He also graduated from Antonio Scalia Law School which he attended while also working full time in the White House from 1972-1977, spanning the last two years of President Nixon 0 including the 'Watergate' years- and the entire administration of President Gerald Ford. At this time in his life, he and his wife, Molly., had been married for over four years and they had one son, Mark. Jr. Volume 4 represent his work from late 1976 through the end of 1977. Mark describes this period as, "my adult life's ugly teenage years; a time of struggle, still searching for the American dream..." He was pursuing a career in business and wrote his poetry as "quietly, obsurely..." while pursuing his career representing ths interests of chemical and manufacturing business in Washington, D.C. on Capitol Hill and the regulatory agencies.
